brokenartsca:

You voted and your 2011 Artists Of The Year are Watershed Hour.

The Whitby alternative rock trio of 17 year-olds played their first proper show last September at Broken Arts: Soundtracked 18 and went on to play Broken Arts’ Christmas show, a couple sets with Living Culture, and a show at Rancho Relaxo in Toronto. They also released their debut Bend Your Knees EP this past December.

Thank you, Broken Arts. The trophy is lovely. Our parents were suitably impressed.

Sledding, Skating, Skiing, or Snowboarding:

Laura: “Natalie and I went skiing for the first time ever (don’t know where Braeden was). We were forbidden from using poles since we were beginners but I think it secretly was because they didn’t have enough. I remember being on the chair lift and watching this blur zoom under us screaming “I can’t stop” only to later realize it was Natalie, to which I yelled back “stop Frenchfrying.” My skiing horror story comes from accidentally going down a double black diamond hill on my first run. Enough said. So I answer with skating because I used to play hockey.”

Natalie: “Tobogganing, but skiing with Laura’s always fun. Also, to add to Laura’s story, we were in Quebec and there were storms and people were speaking in French.”

Ugly Sweater, Santa Hat, or Reindeer Nose:
Braeden: “ugly reindeer hat”

Laura: “I grew up on ugly sweaters.”

Natalie: “I love tacky jumpers.”

What I Want For Christmas:

5 Questions With… Watershed

brokenartsca:

Ashley from Broken Arts in conversation with Laura from Watershed

Who are Watershed?
Braeden - shredder
Natalie Resimes - slappa da bass & vox
Laura - beatmaker

When and how did Watershed come together?
Natalie and Laura met in grade four and performed together for the first time with Linkin Park covers, Laura rapping and Natalie singing and doing some screaming. It wasn’t until grade five that they met Braeden, much shorter and sporting a mushroom cut. Laura and Natalie joined a girl group where everyone played an instrument except Natalie. Natalie was doomed to the instrument no one else wanted to play - the bass. It wasn’t until grade seven that Braeden was added. After a revolving door of musicians, marital disputes within the band, people quitting, bands breaking up, and members cheating on each other by playing with other bands, Braeden, Natalie and Laura have found themselves stuck with each other long enough to create a Facebook page. Watershed was officially given birth in July and have come to realize whether they like it or not whatever happens they will always find themselves jamming with each other.

Are any of you involved in other art projects aside from Watershed?
Natalie is auditioning for her school play soon. Laura is going to be jamming with a musician and hopefully something will come out of that. Braeden is currently working on his audition package for jazz guitar at Humber.

Any big events coming up in Watershed’s future?
We will actually be doing a Battle Of The Bands the day after Soundtracked. After that we will be recording our first EP in our friend’s recording studio. Coming to being sold out of the back of a truck in a parking lot near you.

What can people expect from Watershed at Broken Arts: Soundtracked 18?
You can expect to see Natalie play a left-handed bass re-strung as a right-handed bass, Laura’s unintentional but funny “drumming faces,” and Braeden’s dancing.

Watershed play Broken Arts: Soundtracked 18 on September 23.
